Pizza delivery is a wonderful service that allows people to purchase pizza for larger groups of people and getting that food to the house without leaving the party. It makes the job of the host or the hostess much easier because it allows him or her to enjoy the party and still make sure that everyone is fed. However, one main sticking point for people who purchase pizza and have it delivered is how much to tip the pizza delivery driver. On one hand, many people expect that their pizza delivery driver is not paid highly and want to help out. On the other hand, some people feel that the pizza delivery driver did not make the pizza and suspect that he or she is being compensated already. Here are some tips that you can follow when tipping the pizza delivery driver in order to be as fair as possible.
1. Assess the Situation
Many pizza delivery drivers are going to expect a tip. This does not mean that you need to give one to them, however, If the pizza was cold or scrunched up when it reached your house or if it was delivered an hour after you ordered the pizza, then you are under no obligation to leave a tip. You received sub-par service and will pay accordingly. If there is an obvious reason for the problems, such as a snowstorm or a large amount of construction near your street, then you might want to be more lenient.
2. Pay Based on the Number of Pies You Order
Next, you are going to pay based on the number of pies that you order, along with the number of other items that might have come with your pizza. This is because you are essentially paying a person to carry all of the food that you bought for you. You should always make sure that you compensate that person fairly for the efforts that he or she has made. Doing this tends to make more sense than paying based on the overall cost of the order because the cost of the order might not be indicative of the amount of work that the pizza deliver person put in.
3. Pay a Minimum or Pay $2 Per Pie
Finally, consider paying a minimum tip of $3 for any order that is under $20 and pay a minimum of $2 per pizza or other item that you have delivered. Doing so will allow you to stay on the good side of your pizza deliver guy and ensure that you receive excellent service in the future. It also allows you to make sure that you make up for any possible dangers that the pizza deliver person might have had to endure in order to get your food to you.
